Fuad and Layla Mishu Hosting UT School of Music Holiday Musicale

KNOXVILLE -- Fuad and Layla Mishu will be hosting the UT Holiday Musicale in their home on Sunday, December 18 from 4-6 p.m. This event will raise money for the University of Tennessee School of Music General Scholarship fund.

"School of Music musicales are special events, sometimes in lovely private homes, with a variety of music played by talented UT faculty and/or students, and delicious foods served," says Mary Cushman, board of advisors publicity chair. "It is entertaining, fun and festive."

Thirty-five students are receiving scholarships this academic year from money raised at three Board of Advisors sponsored fundraisers: the Holiday Musicale, the August "An Evening of Wine and Culinary Arts," and the spring Gala Showcase.

Reservations are required. The deadline for reservations is Wednesday, December 14. A suggested donation of $75 per person is requested. Additional scholarship donations also will be accepted.

Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served and guests are asked to wear casual, festive attire.

The host, Fuad Mishu, is a long-term member of the School's Advisory Board and has hosted several Holiday Musicales in his home. Mishu holds the distinction of being the first violinist to broadcast on national Iraqi radio, and played a large role in the founding of the Iraqi Symphony Orchestra in 1937.

In honor of their parents' 60th wedding anniversary, the Mishu children have established the Layla and Fuad Mishu String Scholarship Endowment in the School of Music.
