The show will highlight woodturned platters, bowls and other 3-D forms by Nelson Ziegler, as well as a new series of paintings by Suzanne Jack focussed on the urban Knoxville landscape and viewing the Sunsphere from a variety of vantage points. After Jake Butcher brought the World’s Fair to Knoxville in 1982, the Sunsphere remains as a celebration of world culture in harmony.

Suzanne Jack: Suzanne is a Columbus, Ohio native, former OSU graduate and cheerleader for the 1969 National Championship team, mother of two, and former high school art instructor, currently pursuing a professional career in portrait and landscape painting. Her sensibilities as an artist are revealed through a vivid color palette and dynamic energy. Connecting physically and psychologically to the spirit of the land, the art represents a metaphor for her interior landscape. Suzanne perceives herself as a work of art in process and believes “understanding one’s emotions, character and passions increases the flow of energy to the human heart and spirit.”

A Knoxvillian for over 30 years, she has won regional and national awards, including 1st Place National Award by The Pastel Journal and The National Award of Excellence in Painting by the National Art Education Association. She has had solo exhibitions at Vanderbilt University Club, the Ohio State Faculty Club, The Renaissance Center, Dickson, TN, and Art in the Airport, Nashville, TN. Her art has been exhibited in The Cumberland Gallery (Nashville), Blue Spiral (Asheville, NC), Art Access (Bexley, OH), and is currently showing at The Art Market Gallery in Knoxville, TN. Opryland, TVA, Home Federal Bank, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Corporate Interiors and private collectors have purchased her work. Most recently, her painting “Water Gems” has been placed in the Hyatt Place boardroom in downtown Knoxville. “Water Gems” was also published in Art Journey—Abstract Painting: A Celebration of Contemporary Art by Jamie Merkle (North Light Books, 2017).

After earning a Master’s Degree from The University of Tennessee, Suzanne has continued to study at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN, and with two internationally acclaimed portrait artists.

Nelson Ziegler: Nelson is a native of Sevierville, Tennessee in the Smoky Mountains, and a graduate of The Art Institute of Boston and Northwestern Academy of Watercolor. He has won many regional and national awards for both his painting and woodturning. Among them are the Gold Medal for watercolor at the American Artists Professional League, and an Honorable Mention in The Artist’s Magazine annual competition. He was chosen as the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage Artist of the Year in 2016.

Nelson has participated in numerous juried exhibitions in New York including Allied Artists, American Artists Professional League, Salmagundi Club, Knickerbocker Artists, National Arts Club, Hudson Valley Arts Association, as well as Adirondack National Watercolor Exhibition, Faces of America (a national watercolor portrait show), Academic Artists Association, Springfield Arts League, Springfield, MA, Guild of Boston Artists, Copley Society, Boston, MA, North Shore Arts Association, Gloucester, MA, Tennessee Watercolor Society and Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts.

He is a member of the National Watercolor Society, New England Watercolor Society, The Oil Painters of America and the Northshore Art Association and the American Association of Woodturners. Nelson’s works are in many private and corporate collections throughout the country.

Owned and operated by more than 60 professional regional artists, the Art Market Gallery, at 422 South Gay St., is a few doors away from Mast General store and next to Downtown Grill & Brewery. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on First Fridays; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
