Knoxville Woman First in Area to Be Impregnated with Frozen Eggs

By Jeaneane Payne

A Knoxville woman is the first in the area to conceive using frozen eggs in an assisted reproduction cycle.

The woman went to the Fertility Center in Knoxville for the procedure. Her identity was not released due to privacy laws.

The center's physicians and embryologist partnered with leading experts in oocyte cryopreservation who fine-tuned the freezing process. Now the Fertility Center has confirmation in its own Chattanooga lab for freezing eggs before fertilizing with sperm.

Pregnancy rates with this new method compare very favorably to success rates with frozen embryos. Along with women diagnosed as infertile, cancer victims can safeguard their chances for motherhood before undergoing surgery, radiation or chemotherapy treatments that might damage the ovaries or even cause sterility.

The clinic's website is www.MyFertilityCenter.com.
