KNOXVILLE -- Young-Williams Animal Center hosted its sixth annual Easter bonnet design contest and employee appreciation luncheon on April 21 at the animal center at 3201 Division Street.

The yearly contest and luncheon serve as a reward for the animal center's hardworking employees. Employees design Easter bonnets that are judged in the categories of Most Creative, Funniest, Ugliest and Judges' Choice with prizes being awarded to the winner of each category at the potluck lunch.

This year's judges included Mrs. Allison Burchett; Ryan Cox, director of entertainment and client services for the Tennessee Smokies; Julya Johnson of WATE-TV Channel 6; and Mike Witcher of WBIR-TV Channel 10.

This year, each of the four Young-Williams Animal Center departments also created Easter baskets to donate to East Tennessee Children's Hospital. The baskets contained receiving blankets, coloring books and crayons, crossword puzzle and word-search books, manicure sets and more. The judges also selected the best basket, and the winning department will receive a pizza lunch.

"The Easter contest and luncheon has always served as a fun fellowship activity and reward for our amazing, dedicated staff at Young-Williams," said Tim Adams of Young-Williams Animal Center. "Realizing that it always makes people feel good to do something kind for others, we decided to also have our staff work together to create Easter baskets for the young patients at East Tennessee Children's Hospital.

The Easter baskets were delivered to East Tennessee Children's Hospital on Thursday by Dr. Michael Blackwell of Young-Williams Animal Center and Allison Burchett.

The Young-Williams Animal Center is the official animal shelter for Knox County and the city of Knoxville. The center is a nonprofit organization, community-supported through public and private donations, that turns no animal away and is dedicated to the sheltering and placement of animals, general animal welfare, and public education of companion animal issues.
