Twentieth local Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday

There’s still time to register for the Susan G. Komen Knoxville’s 20th Annual Race for the Cure, which will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at World’s Fair Park. Organizers expect more than 8,000 people to participate in the 5K race, the major fund-raiser for the breast cancer charity.

“This special anniversary is a time to reflect back and celebrate all that we’ve accomplished in giving $7 million back to the local community,” said Amy Dunaway, executive director of the Knoxville affiliate. “We will also remember those we’ve lost, and resolve to work even harder during the next 20 years.”

Dunaway said it’s especially moving to see the pink shirts worn by breast cancer survivors on race day.

“It’s very emotional, especially for those participating for the first time,” she said. “You can see the excitement and raw emotion on their faces.”

Cost for the Race is $35 for adults ($40 timed) and $25 for children ($30 timed). Participants can register online at komenknoxville.org through Thursday or between 6:30 and 7:45 a.m. at the event.

Dunaway noted that donations toward the event would be accepted through Nov. 21.
