UT students need help to raise money for Restoration House

KNOXVILLE — A group of University of Tennessee students are raising money for the local nonprofit, The Restoration House. In partnering with TRH they hope to help low-income, single mothers continue their education. TRH helps these mothers by providing transitional housing, life groups, family advocacy, and youth development. They feel strongly about TRH because their motivation comes from the desire to live out Christian values.

The students are helping fund educational scholarships for the single mothers at TRH. This will allow them to attend further education in hopes of better financial stability. They would like to raise $1,500 that will go directly towards scholarships for the mothers. The awarded money will provide tuition and expenses at whichever college the mothers prefer. So far they have raised $435 of their $1,500 goal, and they have until December 1st to raise the remaining amount.

This campaign is part of certain UTK curriculum which has brought in over $75,000 since implementation. The project brings UTK students together in working towards raising money for a local non-profit organization. Not only does this project expand their knowledge of fundraising through the platform of Indiegogo and the designing of various business documents, but it also helps them learn to work well with the community.

They found The Restoration House by searching for nonprofits whom aid because of Christian values. They chose them because TRH truly makes a difference in the lives of local families. “This place does so much more than just help these mothers through their current situation, it helps them begin to dream again,” says a group member.

The Restoration House cares for the Knoxville community by caring for its mothers. TRH places a high value on education because they desire for these women to strive. Further education allows these women to find more reliable jobs, bettering our community’s work force. These women also receive support in family advocacy, which brings a closeness within their TRH community and the Knoxville community at large.

This campaign is run by Supporting Those Who Supported Us: Victoria Churchill, Dylan Scott, Justin Stewart, Josh Varnedoe, and Colby Whittle. All Proceeds go to The Restoration House Scholarship Fund. You may follow on Facebook at www.facebook.com/stwsu/?pnref=story (Supporting Those Who Supported Us).
