Jason Emert: Why I’m Running

jason emertI'm an 8th generation East Tennessean and proud of it. I was born here. I attended public school here. I got married here, and now, I run a business here.

But, my work has taken me around the globe. It is a dangerous place. I have witnessed first hand what a world without American leadership looks like under President Obama - confused, listless, and unaware — endangering the very liberties we hold dear.

President Trump has promised to bring back American leadership to end global terrorism once and for all by putting American interests first, but never alone.

But foreign policy starts at home. There’s no place I'd rather live, work and raise a family than right here in East Tennessee. I do not need to remind you that we are truly blessed to live in a place like this.

What makes America different is what makes it great: our God-given liberty, endowed by our creator and enshrined in the Constitution.

Yet that America, the one we know and love, is severely threatened today by a failing and feckless Washington. Career politicians and special interests haven’t put America first. In fact, far from it.

I’m tired of these politicians promising everything and delivering nothing, so I’m not going to sit on the sidelines any longer.

Congress needs leaders, and I’m not talking about more of the career politicians who only lead themselves to higher office and bigger paychecks on the backs of the American people – I mean real leaders. Leaders who will go to Washington and unapologetically gut our bloated bureaucracy. Leaders who will fight for our East Tennessee Christian values and uphold the Constitution.

Leaders who are motivated by more than just self-interest. Leaders who know what they believe and why they believe it. Leaders who truly love their country and will stop at nothing to accomplish the things their people want done.

Leaders who won’t let DC bureaucrats, knowing nothing of our way of life, take away our freedoms granted to us in the Bill of Rights. Yes, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, that means protecting our right to bear arms.

Leaders who won’t let Washington continue taxing us at unprecedented rates, especially without us seeing a dollar in return. Yes, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, that means slashing the corporate tax rate so East Tennessee businesses can thrive and prosper.

Leaders who won’t let us continue to pay absurdly high premiums under a healthcare system that simply does not work. Yes, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, that means fully repealing ObamaCare and replacing it with a free market solution.

If I know anything about East Tennessee, I know that people here have had enough of all of this. It’s about time we get off the path we’re on and focus on finding a better way. A path to prosperity that is not riddled with big government traps and creatures from the swamp.

Lastly, I know this – I’m a conservative because of where I come from. This place and our values are engrained deep in my soul. It is who I am. With the way Washington is moving, our way of life is in grave danger. I’m ready and willing to roll up my sleeves and fight for our way of life. It’s just too important not to.

I need your help to do it. Join me and let's get to work. We’ll make Washington work for us again.

Jason Emert is a Republican candidate for United States Congress in Tennessee’s 2nd District.
