Girl Scouts team up with The North Face

CHATTANOOGA, TN - Girl Scouts of the United States of America (GSUSA) have begun an exciting multi-year partnership with The North Face. This partnership brings the development of 12 new Outdoor Adventure Badges (to add to Girl Scouts already existing 52 Outdoor badges). With The North Face’s support, Girl Scouts will introduce new outdoor experiences to encourage leadership, confidence, and risk-taking.

“We’re very excited about this national partnership and about the opportunities it will give girls in our council’s area,” says Lynne Fugate, chief executive officer of the Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians. “Our council is located in some of the best outdoor spaces in America. These badges will help our girls utilize and enjoy these natural resources in a really fun way.”

The 12 new badges will roll out over the next two years across the United States for all current and future members to earn. The badges include mountaineering, backpacking, trail running and hiking. The goal is to challenge girls to get outside and challenge themselves to life-changing outdoor experiences. The partnership also aims to increase female role-model visibility nationwide. This new high-adventure badge series for grades K-12 embodies both companies shared missions to provide girls, no matter socioeconomic status, the opportunity to empower themselves through the outdoors.

For over a century, GSUSA has prepared girls to empower themselves and promotes courage, confidence, character, leadership, entrepreneurship, and active citizenship through activities including camping, community service, first aid, and earning badges by acquiring practical skills.

The North Face is an American outdoor product company specializing in outerwear and outdoor equipment, especially catered for athletes and extreme weather. The company will be supporting badge development and lend expertise in the design of badge activities. This collaboration with GSUSA is part of the brand’s goal to build the next generation of female explorers.
