Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon now accepting proposals for ‘Healthy Living’ grants

Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon is currently accepting proposals for its Community Contribution Program, which will award funds for healthy living initiatives in East Tennessee. The deadline for the proposals is Aug. 1, 2019.

Eligible applicants include nonprofits with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and regional government entities that are considered non-profit and serve Knox County and/or one of its eight contiguous counties: Anderson, Blount, Grainger, Jefferson, Loudon, Roane, Sevier and Union.

“This is another way the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon extends its impact on the health of our region,” said Jason Altman, race director for the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon. “We are very pleased with the success of this grant program, which is now in its sixth year. Based on the many strong proposals we receive each year, it’s evident our area nonprofits are working hard to positively impact our region’s health and fitness. We’re looking forward to learning about more programs and projects and awarding the 2019 grants.”

Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon is East Tennessee’s premier event for runners, and along with the Knoxville Track Club, the event has made great strides in encouraging activity and exercise for people of all ages and abilities throughout the community. The funds designated for the Community Contribution Program provide additional opportunities to support regional projects and charities that promote healthy living.

Application forms are available at www.knoxvillemarathon.com. Projects should represent unique ideas, methods and approaches that utilize physical fitness activities to:

• Improve quality of life in the community
• Promote healthy living practices
• Promote healthy eating habits in relation to physical activity
• Support current programs promoting physical activity (i.e. supplies, equipment, materials or other similar items)
• A combination of any of the above

Applicants may submit proposals up to $8,000, and multiple recipients may be chosen. Proposals must be submitted by Thursday, Aug. 1. The award date will be no later than Sept. 30, 2019.

As part of the race’s 2018 Community Contribution Program, Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon presented a total of $10,000 in grants to Girls on the Run of Greater Knoxville, Knoxville Sled Bears, Bike Elf, Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge and PJ Parkinson’s. Other past grant recipients include Knox County Schools, Appalachian Mountain Bike Club, YWCA Knoxville, The Muse Knoxville and Sunshine Ambassadors.

In addition to the Community Contribution Program, the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon and the Knoxville Track Club have a longstanding history of reinvesting in the community. From 2005 to 2018, a total of $170,000 has been donated to support projects, including the placing of mile markers along local city and county greenways, land acquisition and building trails in South Knoxville’s Urban Wilderness and a golf cart to patrol and clean the greenways.

The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon is a premier event organized by the Knoxville Track Club, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the encouragement of physical well-being through running and walking.
