Henley Bridge project cameras available for public viewing

At 12:01 a.m. on January 3, 2011, the Tennessee Department of Transportation will close the Henley Bridge for 24 to 30 months for an extensive rehabilitation project. During that time the public will be able to watch the intricate dismantling and reconstruction project through two cameras providing two different views.

One camera, posted on top of Mercy Riverside (formerly Baptist Hospital), offers a perspective overlooking the bridge from the east side of the project. The second camera sits atop Neyland Stadium and provides views of the project from the west. A picture is taken every 15 minutes and archived. Both cameras allow the public to zoom in on the project and even look back at previous days to watch the progress.

As TDOT prepares for the closure, crews will finish work on the detour route. Today, workers will reconfigure traffic lanes and signals at Chapman Highway and Moody Avenue. After the work is complete, there will be two right turn lanes from northbound Chapman Highway onto Moody Avenue and one straight through lane continuing on northbound Chapman Highway towards downtown Knoxville.

Motorists should also be alert for temporary lane closures this week on James White Parkway and Interstate 40 as overhead detour signs are installed.
