Neyland Drive lane closures due to Henley Street Bridge project
By Knoxville Daily Sun staff
April 12, 2011

KNOXVILLE -- Traffic on Neyland Drive will be diverted until May 30, 2011.

As demolition continues on the Henley Street Bridge the contractors are now focusing on the northern sections of the overpass. Before they could continue steps had to be taken to divert the traffic on Neyland Drive.

As you approach the area, both directions of traffic on Neyland Drive will be moved to the westbound side and each direction will have one lane while the two lanes usually moving east bound will be blocked off.

During the slower traffic hours, both directions of traffic will be shut down completely and redirected through the UT and downtown areas of Knoxville.

Henley Street Bridge progress is right on schedule while bridge workers labor around the clock to live up to their end of the $24.6 million dollar reconstruction deal.

Overall reconstruction will take between 24 and 30 months with a $1 million construction bonus for completion by Dec 31, 2012. The project began on Jan 3, 2011 and we are how half way into the 4th month.
