KNOXVILLE — Chad J. Kiger, EMC Engineering Manager at Analysis and Measurement Services Corporation (AMS), has received the 2018 Ted Quinn Early Career Award from the Human Factors, Instrumentation and Controls Division (HFICD) of the American Nuclear Society (ANS).

Mr. Kiger is responsible for overseeing the development of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) capabilities of AMS, as well as identifying and procuring the test equipment necessary to perform all facets of EMC and electromagnetic interference (EMI) testing for private clients, utilities, and nuclear power plants throughout the world.

Currently, Mr. Kiger is facilitating the construction of a $5 million state-of-the-art EMC facility, as part of a new lab and office building addition to the AMS technology campus, slated to open summer 2018.

Established in 2017 by the ANS HFICD, the Ted Quinn Early Career Award recognizes an individual for outstanding career contribution to nuclear instrumentation and control (I&C) or human–machine interface technologies. The award, which honors Mr. Ted Quinn, a noted expert in nuclear I&C and past president of ANS, highlights the importance of young members in the future developments of nuclear I&C and human factors research, development, and deployment.

The HFICD has been an important division of ANS since 1979, and is devoted to the human component of nuclear technology, along with the underlying instrumentation, control, and human–machine interface technologies that support the safe operation of nuclear facilities.

The HFICD focuses on the information processing, control, and human system interaction aspects of nuclear systems.
