KNOXVILLE — Analysis and Measurement Services Corporation (AMS), the prominent nuclear engineering consulting firm headquartered in Knoxville, was awarded a significant research and development (R&D) award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under the advanced nuclear technology development and deployment initiative. AMS will conduct the R&D in partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).

The goal of the R&D is to determine when critical cables in nuclear facilities must be replaced. The work will support the existing fleet of nuclear power plants and will contribute to cable aging management in DOE laboratories and nuclear weapon facilities.

In announcing the awards, U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry said, “Nuclear energy plays an increasingly important role in reaching our country’s clean energy and economic goals. These awards are prime examples of the private–public partnerships needed to help successfully develop and deploy innovative domestic nuclear technologies.”

The R&D project will be conducted under the direction of Principal Investigator Mr. Casey Sexton, manager of AMS’s Cable Services Group. Mr. Sexton has worked for AMS as a senior electrical engineer for nearly 25 years. “With this awarded project,” said Mr. Sexton, “AMS will be able to further expand its cable testing technologies for nuclear power plants.”
