Jeep rolls across Hwy 441 after striking tree

GSMNP -- An accident in the National Park on Friday, May 13th at approximately 8:00 p.m. involved a jeep carrying five people (including the driver) went off the roadway near mile marker 9 on Newfound Gap Road. The vehicle struck a tree causing the vehicle to roll 3 to 4 times.

Two occupants were ejected from the vehicle as a result of the crash. Both those occupants were transported via helicopter to a landing zone in Pigeon Forge and then transported by Gatlinburg ambulances to the UT Medical Center.





Both of those occupants were still alive as of May 14. The extent of their injuries is unknown. The other three occupants, including the driver, denied needing medical attention on scene. The roof of the jeep was badly damaged. No other vehicles were involved.
Newfound Gap Road traffic was stopped for two hours as first responders cleared the scene.
