Public input on housing sought at two meetings this week

KNOXVILLE - The City’s Housing and Neighborhood Development team is hosting two public meetings this week. Residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback on community priorities regarding federal funding for local programs and the creation of a fair housing equity plan.

Draft Annual Action Plan
Tuesday, April 23, 5:30 p.m.
Public Works Service Center, 3131 Morris Ave.

City staff will review the draft Annual Action Plan (AAP), which outlines how the City proposes to use U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grants for local activities and programs beginning July 1, 2024. The plan will show how the City will allocate funds across four priority areas: Affordable Housing; Homelessness; Creating Economic Opportunity; and Neighborhood Stabilization and Revitalization. The Draft Plan is posted at KnoxvilleTN.Gov/Development under the “Reports and Plans” tab.

Residents can ask questions or comment on the draft plan by writing to Linda Rust, Community Development Administrator, by email (lrust@knoxvilletn.gov) or by mail to P.O. Box 1631, Knoxville, TN 37901. Comments will be accepted through April 26, 2024.

Fair Housing Equity Plan update

Approximately 100 residents met on March 12 to discuss and provide feedback on the City’s creation of a Fair Housing Equity Plan. This plan, which is required by HUD, will identify goals that advance equity in housing, community development programs, and residents’ access to well-resourced areas, opportunity, and community assets. On April 27, City staff and consultant Rob Breymaier of Community Solutions Collaborative will provide updates and request additional feedback from residents based on their priorities.
