Adoration 2017 inviting 1,000 churches to ETSU football stadium, October 1, 2017

JOHNSON CITY, TN — On October 1, 2017, representatives from 1,000 churches across the country will gather to worship Jesus Christ in the brand new football stadium at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn. for the commencement of Adoration 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Adoration 2017 is an event coordinated by the efforts of 11 young adults and ETSU college students. The intentions are to recruit 1,000 representatives from 1,000 different churches of various denominational backgrounds of the Christian church to worship Jesus Christ and engage in a vision to see Appalachia restored from prescription drug abuse.

Rev. Jeff Oakes, lead pastor at Hosanna Fellowship Church in Johnson City, said that his church is participating in Adoration 2017 because he believes that now is the time for churches to come together.

"I believe one of the most significant things we can do in this hour of history is to magnify the name of Jesus. One heart, one mind, and one voice united together adoring Jesus—what could be better?" said Oakes.

The event, spearheaded by recent ETSU graduate Thomas Cook, has been initiated as an effort to bring churches together to worship Jesus Christ and engage in a vision to see Appalachia restored from prescription drug abuse.

"Our area needs help. We lead most of the world for prescription drug abuse," said Cook. "Our team wants to serve the region we live in while making known the eternal hope in Jesus Christ. No one is out of reach from the love and restoration of God."

Ben Proffitt, Director of Missions at the Holston Baptist Association in Johnson City, says, “I support Adoration 2017 because to me it represents God’s people in simple obedience praying together in unity of spirit and in seeking the heart of God.”

Adoration 2017 intends not only to lead prayer and worship at the event but to equip and mobilize churches and community members to restore those who are suffering from our drug abuse epidemic.

"The event is important because the church is very divided right now and our community is suffering because of it. Our God is a God of unity, not division. We find commonality through what Jesus Christ did on the cross. Division is a characteristic of the enemy, not God. We are unified because of the blood of Jesus Christ," said Cook.

The event is free and everyone is invited. For a church to be counted as one of the 1,000 participating churches, they must appoint one representative from their church to sign up online at www.adorationlife.com and commit to coming to the event on Oct. 1, 2017. Each representative will be a symbol of their individual church at the event. A Prayer Initiative will take place on the day of the event from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., with check-in and fellowship to follow from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. The inclement weather location will be the Mini Dome at ETSU.
