Michael Jordan Kicks Off Celebrity Open in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS -- Sports legend Michael Jordan hosted a Q&A with reporters on March 30, 2010 at Shadow Creek golf course in Las Vegas in preparation for the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational (MJCI), a golf tournament that brings together the greatest names from the worlds of sports and entertainment for four days of competitive golf and special events.
Hosted by ARIA Resort & Casino, the tournament will be held at Shadow Creek, one of the country's most exclusive courses. Over the past 10 years, the tournament has raised more than $5 million for charity.
Celebrities scheduled to participate in the tournament are Drew Brees, Wayne Gretzky, Ken Griffey, Jr., Marcus Allen, Mario Lemieux, Mia Hamm, Boris Becker, John Smoltz, Spike Lee, Don Cheadle, Brian Baumgartner, Shannon Elizabeth and many more to be announced.
This year's event beneficiaries include the Make-A-Wish Foundation, James R. Jordan Foundation, Nevada Cancer Institute and Cats Care, the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats' charity arm.
The first of two rounds of the Celebrity-Amateur tournament, which pairs one celebrity with four amateur participants, will take place Thursday, March 31 at Shadow Creek. The final round of the Celebrity-Amateur Friday, April 1 will be followed by one of the event's signatures, the MJCI Celebration featuring headline entertainment.
The MJCI two-person, 36-hole scramble format tournament begins Saturday, April 2 and includes only the competing celebrities. The second and final round of the MJCI will be played Sunday, April 3.
