Scots Win Thriller, Ground Eagles 1-0

MARYVILLE -- It took until the 90th minute, but Maryville College's Men's Soccer team beat the Emory University Eagles 1-0 on Saturday in front of the biggest crowd of the year.

In a seesaw event that saw both teams get the better of the play for portions of the game, it seems only fitting that Maryville was carried to victory by a pair of seniors in the last home match of their career. Reigning Great South Athletic Conference Player of the Year Brian Beckham played a fabulous ball to a streaking Travis Bolton as he made a run and buried the ball behind the sprawling Emory keeper. This was arguably the biggest of Bolton's team leading six season goals as it propelled the Scots to victory with only twenty-five seconds left in regulation.

Ben Munger was outstanding in goal once again. The freshman from Cullman, Alabama stopped eight shots to earn his fourth shutout and fourth victory of the year.

"It feels great to get a win in your last home match and to do it with all the injuries we had today makes it that much more special. We got a great effort from our seniors once again and I'm happy for our guys," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. The Scots now move to 10-3-2 on the year. Maryville will once again be in action when they travel to Dayton, Tennessee to take on Bryan College. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
