Maryville Men Earn 1-0 Victory and Knock off #2 Lynchburg

MARYVILLE, TN -- The Maryville College Men's Soccer team defeated the Hornets of Lynchburg College 1-0 on Saturday, September 10th.

The Scots were able to ride an early goal by Tyler Tinker with an assist from Tom Webster to the victory. The goal was Tinker's third of the young season as well as Webster's third assist. Zach Gutzman was outstanding in goal, keeping the second ranked Hornets off the board. The shutout was the second for the freshman from Hendersonville, Tennessee. Maryville played an exceptional first half to get the only goal of the contest, while out shooting Lynchburg 16-8 for the game.

"It's a great win for our program. We went into a tough environment against a nationally ranked team and played a great game. I couldn't be more proud of our guys for their effort today," said Head Coach Pepe Fernandez.

The Scots will be back in action on Sunday September 11th when they take on regionally ranked Hampden-Sydney College at 11:00 am in Lynchburg, Virginia.
