LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – The delightfully named LouVelo bike sharing system opens the door to pedal-powered exploration of the heart of Kentucky’s largest city. As in many cities, using the Louisville bike share system is easy. Use your smartphone to check a bike out of a bike station, pedal where you want to go and then deposit the bike at any station you choose.
LouVelo’s 32 bike stations are concentrated in the city’s central area and are convenient to major hotels. Leave your hotel, and wheel to destinations such as the Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum, the Muhammad Ali Center, Churchill Downs or the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience (but consider walking back to your hotel from a bourbon tasting).
Fees are modest – $3.50 for 30 minutes or $7.50 for a 24-hour pass. Also, be on the lookout for bonuses, such as half-price tour tickets at Copper & Kings, a brandy distillery in the Butchertown neighborhood, if you arrive by bike instead of by car.

One of Louisville’s special treats is finding great views of the Ohio River. That’s made even more fun while exploring on two wheels. With LouVelo, it’s even possible to pedal across the river to Jeffersonville, Indiana. Among the destinations there is Indiana’s Falls of the Ohio State Park.
