NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) proudly announces that Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy (TLETA) Director Brian Grisham was recently elected president of the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST).

Grisham, who also serves in a dual role as executive secretary of the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission, was elected by members of the group during their 2016 conference in Grand Rapids, Mich. IADLEST is an international organization representing law enforcement training managers and executives from countries dedicated to improving public safety personnel. IADLEST serves as the national forum of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) agencies, boards, and commissions as well as statewide training academies throughout the country.

Grisham’s election comes as TLETA commemorates its 50th anniversary, which culminates later this year in a celebration of the academy and its legacy of serving as Tennessee’s premier law enforcement training facility.

“I am humbled and honored that my peers in IADLEST have chosen me to represent them, and I hope to continue IADLEST’s international growth,” said Grisham. “Today, law enforcement is being scrutinized by the public and the media like never before. As attention on law enforcement has increased, the importance on good training, expertise in the law, and a commitment to community outreach has grown exponentially. I look forward to the challenge of helping IADLEST set a new standard for law enforcement training around the world.”

Named TLETA director in April 2005, Grisham received his law degree from the Nashville School of Law in 1989 and his bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1984. Grisham’s law enforcement experience includes service with the Department of Safety’s Criminal Investigations Division, MTSU Police Department, and prior service with TLETA.

He has been a licensed attorney since 1989 and has training certifications in criminal law, firearms instruction, asset forfeiture, police management, and courtroom security.

In addition to instructional and administrative duties at TLETA, he has served as an investigator and legal advisor to the POST Commission.

Outside of these departmental duties, Grisham serves as a member of the Tennessee Public Safety Network providing training and critical incident stress debriefing and peer support and is a member of the Tennessee Voices for Victims Advisory Council.

Grisham is a graduate of the Tennessee Government Executive Institute and the FBI National Law Institute. In 2011, Grisham was appointed to the Governor’s Subcabinet for Public Safety.
