KNOX COUNTY, TN - During his Weekly Update today, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs talked about Brickey-McCloud Elementary’s recognition as a Reward School by the Tennessee Department of Education; the finance department winning the “Triple Crown”; and a tour of Operation Hero’s Hill tiny homes.

“Schools are recognized as Reward Schools when they demonstrate high levels of performance and/or improvement in performance,” Mayor Jacobs says. “That’s great work by the students, staff, and parents at Brickey. Way to go!”

The Knox County Finance Department has once again been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association’s Triple Crown for Excellence in Financial Reporting. Out of thousands of governmental entities across the US and Canada, only around 300 win this award each year.

“This is the sixth year in a row, our finance department has won it,” the mayor notes. “Hmmm, Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player of all time, won six NBA championships. Our finance department has won six Grand Slams. Yeah, sounds about right. Tremendous job as always!”

Mayor Jacobs adds that during a tour earlier this week of the Operation Hero’s Hill tiny homes at the Byington-Solway Career and Technical Education Center, Arnold Ventures announced that they are donating $25,000 to the project.

“Between what has already been donated and pledged, that brings our total fundraising effort to about half of our goal for that part of the project. That does not include all the in-kind goods and services which we have received,” Mayor Jacobs adds. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone for your generosity.”
