KNOXVILLE - During his Weekly Update today, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs talks about the Road to One Book Read City and different sporting events happening this weekend.

One Book Ready City returns for its fifth year on May 1. Ahead of the launch, students can discover clues to this year’s book through the Road to One Book Read City events. Participants can pick up a roadmap at the Smokies game this Sunday and collect a sticker at each event.

• Sunday, April 12 at 2 p.m. – Knoxville Smokies baseball game
• Saturday, April 18 at 7 p.m. – One Knox soccer game
• Friday, April 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. – Muse Knoxville
• Sunday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Zoo Knoxville

Completed cards can be turned in at Zoo Knoxville on April 26 for a chance to win a VIP experience at the Children’s Festival of Reading on May 16. Knox County elementary students receive free admission at each event, and thanks to Comcast, a limited number of free adult tickets will also be available. More information is available on the Knox County Library's website.

The University of Tennessee football team will host its annual Orange and White game tomorrow at 2 p.m. Free tickets are still available, and those unable to attend can catch some coverage on the Vol Network.

On Sunday, Mayor Jacobs will serve as Grand Marshal at the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, and Vol for Life Josh Dobbs will serve as the race’s honorary starter. The race begins at 3 p.m. and will be available to watch on the Fox Sports app, FS1, and Hulu+.

“That’s right, I will be the grand marshal at the world’s fastest half mile,” says Mayor Jacobs. “Many thanks to Food City for this great honor.”

Food City has been a long-time partner on numerous county efforts, most recently providing $4,000 to Operation Hero’s Hill to stock the tiny home pantries.
