KNOXVILLE - During his Weekly Update today, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs talked about the Food City 500, House Mountain, Camporee on the Hill, and more.

Last Sunday, Mayor Jacobs served as Grand Marshal at the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway alongside Vol for Life Josh Dobbs who served as the race’s honorary starter.

“A big thank you to Food City, NASCAR, and the Speedway for their hospitality,” said Mayor Jacobs. “And congratulations to Ty Gibbs on his first career NASCAR Cup Series win!”

Coming up next weekend, Mayor Jacobs invites residents to join our Parks and Rec team at the 4th annual Camporee on the Hill. The camping event runs April 24 to 26 at Melton Hill Park and will feature nature programming, a sunset movie, campfire jam session, and water sport rentals. Only those registered will be allowed to camp. Those interested can find more information and register on the Parks and Rec webpage.

Jacobs also addressed the fire on House Mountain earlier this week. The wildfire burned an estimated 50 acres, and crews worked day and night to contain it. The park will remain closed until further notice.
