Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs to Receive Legacy of Service Award

KNOXVILLE — The Salvation Army of Knoxville will recognize Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs with its Legacy of Service Award during the 13th Annual Cup of Hope Luncheon on Wednesday, September 16, at Bridgewater Place. Jacobs will also serve as the event’s featured speaker.

The recognition comes as Jacobs approaches the conclusion of his time as Knox County Mayor and celebrates his years of public service and commitment to the East Tennessee community.

This year’s Cup of Hope theme, “When a Community Comes Together,” will highlight the importance of partnerships in addressing some of the community’s most difficult challenges. During the program, Jacobs will reflect on his years in office and his commitment to service, with a focus on what can be accomplished when government, nonprofit organizations, businesses, churches and individuals work together.

The Salvation Army’s Legacy of Service Award was established in 2025 to recognize individuals whose sustained commitment to service has made a meaningful difference in the lives of neighbors in need. The inaugural recipients were Bo Shafer and Bill Weigel.

“Mayor Jacobs has consistently demonstrated a belief that serving our community is something we do together,” said Chris Boler, Board Chairman for The Salvation Army of Knoxville. “As he concludes his time as Knox County Mayor, we are grateful for the opportunity to recognize his service and to hear his perspective on the power of community partnerships.”

The 13th Annual Cup of Hope Luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, at Bridgewater Place, 205 Bridgewater Road in Knoxville.

Cup of Hope is The Salvation Army of Knoxville’s signature fundraising luncheon. Proceeds support local programs serving individuals and families in need, including emergency and family shelter, transitional housing, rapid rehousing, medical respite care, domestic violence recovery and addiction recovery services.
