KNOXVILLE - During his weekly update, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs talked about the new Knox County Regional Forensic Center building dedication, a grant to support homeless veterans, the transition, and more.
Mayor Jacobs highlighted the unveiling of the new Knox County Regional Forensic Center, which has been named in honor of Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Darinka Mileusnic. The center serves 23 counties and is the medical examiner for Knox, Anderson, and Blount counties.
“It was a real pleasure for me to unveil our new forensic center named in honor of Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Darinka Mileusnic,” says Mayor Jacobs. “The new building will provide our great folks at the forensic center with the resources they need to maintain their standard of excellence.”
The mayor announced that Knox County has received an $820,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program. The funding will support efforts to reduce veteran homelessness by creating a coordinated pathway to stable employment, housing, and long-term self-sufficiency.
Mayor Jacobs also discussed the transition to the incoming administration, noting that his team and department senior directors met with Mayor-elect Betsy Henderson and her team to begin the transition process.
“From today, there are only 18 days until Betsy takes office,” says Mayor Jacobs. “I know that she will utilize that time effectively. I also appreciate the efforts of my team to help make the transition as seamless as possible.” |
