Adult Dies in House Fire

The 1200 block of Linden Avenue in East Knoxville where an adult lost their life in a house fire.

KNOXVILLE - The Knoxville Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 2300 block of Linden Avenue late Monday night.

At approximately 11:44 p.m., 911 received a report from a passerby who observed flames coming from a home. Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from one side of the home and immediately initiated fire suppression and a primary search of the structure.

During the search, firefighters located an adult occupant inside the home and removed the victim to the exterior. Firefighters and EMS personnel immediately provided advanced lifesaving measures; however, despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The fire was brought under control shortly after midnight. The residence sustained significant fire, smoke, and water damage. A neighboring home also sustained minor heat-related damage to its vinyl siding. One dog was also found deceased as a result of the fire.

No firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and fire investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

While investigators continue their work, the Knoxville Fire Department would like to remind residents of the importance of having working smoke alarms on every level of the home and outside sleeping areas. Properly installed and maintained smoke alarms provide early warning and can significantly increase the chance of surviving a fire.
